What are EFI Hot Folders?

EFI Hot Folders is a utility that allows the user to print PDF, PS, EPS or TIFF files on their C9800 GA without having to open them in an external application first.
The utility allows the user to mark a standard Windows directory as a 'Hot Folder', once this folder has been marked the user can print a PDF, PS, EPS, or TIFF file simply by dragging and dropping into this folder. As an additional option the user can set up driver properties for each folder so for example they could have separate folders for A4 Long Edge Feed from Tray 1, A4 Short Edge Feed from the Multipurpose Tray, A3 Duplex from Tray 2 etc...
The procedure for creating a 'Hot Folder' is as follows:
Create a standard Windows folder.
Open the 'EFI Hot Folders' utility.
Click
and select the folder that has just been
created.Select the folder in the 'Edit Folders' window
and click

Note: In this screenshot 'Imposition Settings' is mentioned, this feature is unavailable unless the user has purchased an additional software utility called 'EFI DocBuilder Pro'. For more information on 'Imposition' please refer to the documentation supplied with 'EFI DocBuilder Pro'.
Click 'Select' and choose the printer to be used.
Choose the appropriate print queue in the 'Logical Printer' pull-down menu.
Click 'Job Settings' and then click 'Define', a driver window will open. Set the desired driver settings and then click 'OK'
By default any files that are dropped on a 'Hot Folder' will be automatically deleted, it is possible to change this setting so that a copy of these files is retained:
Click 'Advanced'
On the next screen tick the 'Keep Original' box.
The original Windows folder will now be marked with the following icon.
Unless the folder is removed by using the EFI Hot Folders utility it will not be possible to rename copy or delete the folder by using standard Windows commands or menus. It is possible however to delete, make copies, rename, disable or enable 'Hot Folders' by using the utility. The rename option will not be available unless the folder is first disabled.
Note1: EFI Hot Folders is only available for
the C9800 GA model, if the utility is used with a non GA C9800 then
an error message will be displayed.
Note2: A separate utility 'EFI Downloader' is also
supplied with the C9800 and will allow the user to send PDF, PS,
EPS and TIFF files directly to the printer without using the
application. In the printer's Web Page a utility called
'WebDownloader' provides a similar functionality to 'EFI
Downloader' and again this is compatible with all variants of
C9800. The Oki PDF Direct print utility will allow the user to send
a PDF directly to their printer by right-clicking the file and
choosing a menu option; this is compatible with all C9800
variants.
