The staus monitor displays a connection error.

This error message can indicate there is a problem with the cable.
Therefore make sure the cable is:
* IEEE 1284 compliant
* Less than 2 metres in length
* Connected directly to the PC and the parallel port mode in PC BIOS is set to the EPP.
It should also be noted that additional devices connected to the parallel port may cause problems, for example a Zip drive or a scanner.
